The Teacher Service Commission (TSC) has announced a mass recruitment of 20,000 teacher interns for Junior Secondary Schools (JSS).
This comes just a week after the recruitment of at least 46,000 permanent Junior Secondary School teachers was completed.
In a notice released on Tuesday, the commission invited interested candidates to apply online via the TSC website, www.tsc.go.ke or teachersonline.tsc.go.ke, by midnight on November 4, 2024.
To qualify, applicants must be Kenyan citizens with at least a Diploma in Education. They should also have a minimum mean grade of C+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and at least a C+ in two teaching subjects or their equivalents. Additionally, candidates must be registered teachers with the TSC, and individuals with disabilities are particularly encouraged to apply.
Applicants will need to present original academic and professional certificates for verification.
The TSC stated that this initiative aims to enhance the implementation of the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) nationwide. They also specified that manual applications will not be accepted, and candidates must be unemployed with no disciplinary record with the commission.
“This internship program is intended to equip new teachers with essential skills through mentorship and practical experience,” TSC noted.
Successful candidates will be assigned to Junior Secondary Schools in their home counties or in areas with available vacancies. The internship, lasting twelve months, will involve teaching various subjects under the Junior School Curriculum.
While the internship is unpaid, participants will receive a monthly stipend of Sh20,000, subject to statutory deductions. They must also provide a Teacher Registration Certificate, a National ID or Passport, and a copy of their KRA Personal Identification Number (PIN).
Upon completing the internship, participants will receive a certificate recognizing their experience and contributions to the teaching profession.
The commission also warned applicants about potential fraudsters trying to exploit the recruitment process and advised them to report any suspicious activity to the nearest TSC office or local police station.
