The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has refuted claims of a blackout at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) during the power outage on Friday night.
The authority labeled social media reports of disruptions as false and misleading, reassuring the public of its commitment to maintaining smooth operations.
KAA stated that backup power systems and generators were promptly activated following the national grid outage, ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply and continuous airport services and flight operations.
“We assure the public that JKIA remains fully operational, and passengers can expect seamless service throughout their travel experience,” KAA emphasized.
The airport’s services continued without interruption during the nationwide blackout, a notable improvement from the previous outage when response times were delayed by up to 30 minutes. The recovery from this outage was notably swift.
Kenya Power reported that electricity has been restored to most parts of the country, including the Western Region, parts of Central Rift, South Nyanza, and Nairobi. Restoration efforts are ongoing for the remaining areas.
Kenya Power confirmed that power loss affected various regions, except for the North Rift and some areas in the Western region.
