Detectives have arrested another suspect, nicknamed “Kush” (not his real name), in connection with the assassination of Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were. He was apprehended in Isebania, near the Kenya-Tanzania border, while allegedly trying to flee the country. Kush is now the 11th suspect detained in the ongoing investigation.
Linked to a criminal syndicate operating in Nairobi, Kush reportedly travelled to the CBD on the day of the killing and was in possession of the getaway motorcycle. Investigators say he later fled to Kayole, where he discarded the murder weapon—later recovered and confirmed through ballistic tests—then attempted to reach Tanzania through Narok and Isebania, aided by a relative. Another man found with him was also arrested.
The list of suspects already in custody includes the late MP’s bodyguard, driver, and several alleged financiers, including a businessman, a politician, and a government official. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations is continuing to pursue additional suspects and examining financial transactions that could point to the motive.
Police have described the shooting, which occurred in traffic on April 30, 2025, as a politically motivated hit. Some suspects allegedly confessed to being paid in US dollars, and over Sh615,000 has been recovered as suspected payment. Investigators have secured surveillance footage, financial records, and forensic evidence to build the case further.
