Suba South MP Caroli Omondi has weighed in on ODM leader Raila Odinga’s bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship, suggesting that his victory could reshape the political landscape in Nyanza. Omondi believes that Raila’s potential win at the AUC would create a level playing field for politicians eyeing elective seats in the region, particularly those who have relied on his endorsement in the past.
Speaking at Nyakiamo Stadium in Sindo town, where he announced the acquisition of three new school buses for local secondary schools, Omondi expressed his support for Raila’s AUC bid and pledged to campaign vigorously across the continent to enhance his chances of success. He noted that a victory for Raila would challenge politicians who have depended on his backing, urging them to prepare for fair competition in the upcoming 2027 General Election.
The MP emphasized the importance of merit-based leadership, urging residents to prioritize development and assess leaders based on their track records. Omondi highlighted the progress made in Suba South constituency, including the construction of the first tarmac road, which he attributed to his cooperation with President William Ruto’s government.
Despite being labeled a “rebel” within ODM for his collaboration with Ruto, Omondi defended his decision, citing tangible development projects initiated through his cooperation with the government. He also addressed the recent endorsement of ODM National Chairman John Mbadi to contest the Suba South parliamentary seat, noting that it has intensified political rivalry in the area. Omondi, however, remains steadfast in consolidating his support base as he prepares to defend his seat in the upcoming election.
