In a landmark joint appearance in Kisumu, President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga rallied support for their new political alliance, championing unity, development, and national reconciliation. The tour marked their first together in Nyanza since forging a working relationship, which they described as essential for healing political rifts and fostering long-term national stability.
Addressing crowds during the launch of a KSh 3.2 billion affordable housing project, the two leaders emphasized service delivery over constant politicking. Ruto praised Raila’s donation of five acres of private land for the initiative, calling it a gesture of goodwill that will benefit local traders and boda boda riders. The government plans to construct 15,000 affordable housing units in Kisumu, with 600 already completed and thousands more underway.
Ruto also announced plans to revive the ailing sugar sector, promising prompt payments and bonuses for farmers. Raila backed these efforts, stressing the need for immediate development rather than waiting for future administrations.
The tour sent a strong message of unity ahead of the 2027 general election, with both leaders calling on Kenyans to reject divisive politics and support collaborative governance.
