Kenya’s Olympic silver medallist Julius Yego is set to make his much-anticipated return to the global stage at the Doha Diamond League tonight. The 36-year-old javelin star, famously self-taught via YouTube, is eyeing a strong start to his 2025 season as he builds towards the World Championships in Tokyo this September.
Yego hasn’t competed internationally since a lacklustre showing in Zurich 2024, where he finished last. However, with his Tokyo qualification already secured after a superb 87.72m throw at the Paris Olympics, the former world champion is optimistic.
“Asia has always been good to me. I’m confident and hopeful for another 90m throw,” Yego said, reflecting on his gold medal at the 2015 Beijing World Championships, where he set the African record of 92.72m.
In Doha, Yego faces a world-class lineup including Olympic medallists Neeraj Chopra, Anderson Peters, and Jakub Vadlejch, making it a crucial test of his form and readiness for another shot at global glory.
