Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has called on manufacturers to invest in the county, citing its rich agricultural base and growing infrastructure as ideal for agro-industrial development. Speaking in Kutus during the launch of Joy Millers’ new wheat milling equipment with a 600-tonne daily capacity, Waiguru highlighted the county’s strategic shift toward value addition and job creation.
Waiguru praised Joy Millers for its ongoing investments, noting that such firms boost farmers’ incomes and provide employment for over 1,500 youth directly. She emphasized that Kirinyaga is becoming an agro-industrial powerhouse, producing significant quantities of rice, tomatoes, coffee, and milk annually.
She also promoted the upcoming Sagana Industrial Park, a 242-acre facility set to host manufacturing, packaging, and processing firms, alongside amenities like a golf course and a four-star hotel. So far, 57 investors have expressed interest in the park, which is well-connected via the Northern Corridor’s road and rail networks.
Trade CS Lee Kinyanjui supported the call for industrial investment and hinted at potential tax exemptions on imported agro-processing equipment. Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata also pledged support, noting a partnership with Joy Millers to ensure stable income for maize farmers in his county.
