Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru is calling on manufacturers to invest in the agriculturally rich county, citing its strategic infrastructure, fertile land, and commitment to value addition as key advantages. Speaking during the launch of a new 600-tonne-per-day wheat milling machine at Joy Millers in Kutus, Waiguru said the county’s focus is shifting from production to agro-industrial growth.
With over half its land under agriculture, Kirinyaga produces 180,000 tonnes of rice, 110,000 tonnes of tomatoes, 42,000 tonnes of coffee, and 86,000 liters of milk annually. Waiguru emphasized the economic impact of firms like Joy Millers, which directly employs over 1,500 youths. The county’s Sagana Industrial Park—spanning 242 acres—is set to host processing and manufacturing facilities, with 57 investors already onboard. Trade CS Lee Kinyanjui and Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata backed the push for local industry, citing government support and regional collaboration as key to agro-processing success.
