Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta shared a heartfelt and humorous memory of the late Pope Francis, recalling how the Pontiff once “chased him out” of his own office during the Pope’s 2015 visit to Kenya.
Speaking at the requiem Mass at Holy Family Basilica on April 25, Uhuru described the incident as a reflection of Pope Francis’ humility. He recounted that after a private discussion in State House, he introduced a guest who wished to meet the Pope. When the guest remained silent, Pope Francis jokingly questioned the need for Uhuru’s presence, effectively sending him out of his own office, a moment that drew laughter from the congregation.
Uhuru also praised the Pope’s compassion, revealing that even after his visit, the Pope continued to check on the individual he had met. He lauded Pope Francis as a humble and selfless leader who deeply cared for others.
