Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja and Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo toured the ongoing Ngara housing project, a key part of the city’s urban renewal plan aimed at increasing affordable housing. The Jeevanjee Bachelor Housing Project has expanded from just 80 units to 1,800, with 384 units expected to be ready by August and full completion anticipated by 2026. Governor Sakaja praised the project’s progress and stressed the need for residents to meet their financial obligations to the county to support continued service delivery.
Mayor Hidalgo lauded the project as a vital step toward sustainable urban growth. Housing Chief Officer Lydia Mathia emphasized the efficient use of land in the development. Sakaja noted that Nairobi, with over 7 million people, operates on a significantly smaller budget than cities like Paris, underscoring the need for improved local revenue collection through land rates and business permits. He also condemned long-term rent defaulters in county housing, calling for accountability to support public service delivery.
