A private vehicle believed to have been used in the alleged abduction of Juja MP George Koimburi was recovered in Juja Township, leading to the arrest of its owner—reportedly a close political ally of the legislator and a UDA agent during the 2022 elections. Detectives are also tracking a motorcycle said to have ferried the MP to the coffee plantation where he was discovered on Monday.
The police, however, have cast doubt on the abduction narrative, labeling the incident a politically motivated stunt. Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja said their investigation showed inconsistencies in the scene and the circulated video, questioning how Koimburi’s associates located him so quickly and why he was taken to hospital in his own car, driven by a known aide.
Koimburi, now admitted at Karen Hospital, has yet to speak to investigators. The hospital has reportedly denied access to detectives, on orders from his family. While opposition leaders including Kalonzo Musyoka and Justin Muturi dismissed the police theory, Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has called for a parliamentary inquiry, linking the matter to broader concerns over the safety of lawmakers, especially after the recent fatal shooting of another MP.
