The trial of former Migori Governor Okoth Obado, who is accused of murdering Sharon Otieno, was postponed after a co-accused, Michael Oyamo, requested more time to respond to Obado’s testimony.
On Wednesday, Obado denied any involvement in Sharon’s 2018 murder, stating he did not plan, conspire, or facilitate the killing. His statement appeared to shift blame to his co-accused, Oyamo and Casper Obiero.
Oyamo, who was scheduled to start his defence Thursday, said he needed time to review Obado’s claims. The judge granted the adjournment and later extended it to May 19 due to Oyamo’s lawyer attending to a sick child.
Obado said he was in Nairobi on the day of Sharon’s abduction and murder, detailing his movements and denying any connection to the crime, though he admitted to having a relationship with Sharon and being the father of her unborn child.
Sharon, who was seven months pregnant, was found murdered in Kodera Forest on September 3, 2018. Her unborn baby also died from stab wounds.
