Mara Sugar FC has officially advanced to the Round of 16 in the FKF Cup after the FKF Appeals Committee upheld the disqualification of AFC Leopards. The decision stems from crowd trouble during their abandoned match at Mambo Leo Stadium, where the game was halted in the 89th minute with the score at 0-0 after a reversed penalty sparked unrest from AFC Leopards fans.
The FKF Leagues and Competitions Committee initially ruled that AFC Leopards were at fault, citing regulations that penalize clubs for fan misconduct leading to abandoned matches. The Appeals Committee affirmed this ruling, reinforcing that Mara Sugar be awarded the win and that AFC Leopards bear responsibility for the disruption.
AFC Leopards had appealed the disqualification, but the Appeals Committee found no error in the initial decision. The club has been issued a warning over its supporters’ behavior and advised to implement stricter crowd control measures.
Mara Sugar will now face Compel FC in the Round of 16 on May 21 in Kisumu, with the winner set to meet Kenya Police FC in the quarterfinals.
