Family members and political leaders are demanding a thorough investigation into the murder of Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were, who was fatally shot on April 30 near City Mortuary. During his emotional burial at Karabok Primary School, his widow Maggie Were urged the government to pursue justice, saying peace will only come when those responsible are held accountable.
Her co-wife, Ann Were, described the loss as both personal and political, calling on the state to uncover the truth. The MP’s son, Pascal Were, vowed the family would not rest until justice is served, asserting they would not be intimidated.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and other leaders condemned the killing, describing it as a political assassination and called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and the DPP to act swiftly. ODM leader Raila Odinga insisted that those arrested so far are mere operatives and not the masterminds, urging the arrest of the real perpetrators, whom he claimed are known.
Migori Governor Achillo Ayacko criticized ongoing efforts to defame the late MP on social media, saying it added pain to an already grieving family.
