Moses Kuria, President Ruto’s senior economic advisor, has expressed support for the launch of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), linked to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. The party was officially registered on February 3, 2025, and is being unveiled on May 15 in Lavington. With the slogan Kazi na Haki (Work and Justice) and a logo depicting a hand touching an ear—symbolising attentiveness to citizens—DCP is positioning itself as a grassroots-driven political force.
The party’s formation has sparked political ripples, especially in the Mount Kenya region. Gachagua’s allies kept the party’s name under wraps to avoid early scrutiny. Kuria, who recently revived his Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) party, acknowledged DCP’s role in pluralistic politics but could pose a challenge to Gachagua’s call for a unified political front. DCP’s leadership includes a diverse team, and Gachagua is eyeing coalitions with key Opposition figures like Kalonzo Musyoka and Martha Karua, aiming to broaden his political base.
