A section of Kenya Kwanza leaders has pushed back against former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s recent remarks urging the youth to actively engage in governance and fight for their rights.
Speaking on Friday, Uhuru told young people they have the numbers, time, and energy to drive the change they desire, warning that “no one is coming to save us” as the world becomes increasingly inward-looking. However, leaders allied to President William Ruto interpreted his comments as an attempt to mobilize the youth against the current government.
Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, leading the rebuttal, called on the former president to allow Ruto to govern without interference. “You had your time. Let Ruto work in peace. We have respected you, but if you continue attacking the government, we will respond,” Sudi warned during a Sunday service at ACK Tumaini Church in Eldoret City.
Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa also challenged Uhuru to demonstrate what he had accomplished for the youth during his presidency. Other leaders present, including Governor Jonathan Bii and MPs Reuben Kiborek, Charles Kamuren, Gabriel Kagombe, Elijah Kururia, and Ann Wamuratha, echoed support for Ruto. Kagombe emphasized that Mt Kenya leaders remain firmly behind the President and will not be swayed by dissenting voices.
