Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata has dismissed allegations linking him to fraudulent activities in the 2019 Ethiopian Airlines crash compensation process. Responding to a televised report, Kang’ata—who legally represented some of the victims’ families—stated that neither he nor any of the individuals named as his staff benefited from the payouts.
He affirmed that all genuine victims he represented were fully compensated, with no complaints raised. He emphasized that the case was conclusively closed and reiterated his commitment to using his legal expertise to advocate for Kenyans both locally and internationally.
Kang’ata clarified that his participation in related Senate debates brought him no personal benefit. At the time of the incident, he was serving as Murang’a Senator. The exposé claimed that individuals then associated with his office—and allegedly now working in the county government—were fraudulently listed as next of kin. However, the report itself admitted it had no concrete evidence showing Kang’ata or any named individuals received compensation from Boeing.
