Kajiado County is set to launch its One Health Strategic Plan 2025–2030, a multi-sectoral framework integrating human, animal, and environmental health. Supported by AMREF Health Africa and Cooperative University of Kenya, the plan promotes collaboration between the medical, agriculture, and environment departments to combat zoonotic diseases and other public health threats. A digital hub piloted in Loitokitok will connect rural farmers to health experts, enabling real-time disease reporting and feedback.
The initiative emphasizes using agricultural cooperatives for gender-responsive healthcare financing and awareness. During a three-day training, MCAs and stakeholders validated the strategic plan, which will soon be presented to the County Cabinet. Officials highlighted the urgency of such an approach in livestock-rich Kajiado, where human-animal interaction is high. Kenya’s national One Health strategy serves as a model, with Kajiado now among the few counties adopting this comprehensive public health approach.
