Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has admitted to making serious mistakes during his time in office, particularly in trusting the wrong people. He revealed that those he welcomed into his inner circle later betrayed him, having been influenced by political opponents.
Speaking reflectively, Gachagua said he has learned to be more cautious and now values trust and integrity in those around him. “I made mistakes by trusting people who only pretended to support me. They later turned against me,” he said.
Gachagua, who was impeached in October 2024 after serving for two and a half years, has since joined the opposition. He is actively working with other opposition leaders to build a united front against President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 elections.
He believes their unity is essential to bringing change and addressing the country’s challenges.
