Police are investigating a robbery in which a construction foreman was ambushed and robbed of Sh307,000 shortly after withdrawing the money from a bank in Kitengela, Kajiado County, on May 3. The man, who was en route to pay workers at a site in Kimalati, was stopped by two men posing as traffic police officers. They claimed he had committed a traffic offence and insisted on accompanying him to a police station.
After boarding his car—along with another civilian—the suspects took control of the vehicle, robbed him of the cash, and drove him nearly 50 kilometers away to Old Kiambu Road in Nairobi, where they abandoned him and took off with his car keys. The victim reported the matter at Muthaiga Police Station.
This incident mirrors a similar case in April, where a businessman lost Sh900,000 in Machakos after withdrawing Sh1.5 million from a bank. He had parked his car for a meeting, only to return and find part of the money stolen after thieves broke in.
Police are now warning the public about a growing trend of targeted robberies linked to bank withdrawals.
