Kenya Power has scheduled planned power interruptions in parts of Nairobi and six other counties on Thursday, September 10, 2026, as the utility carries out routine network maintenance, the company said in a notice shared on its official X account.
Nairobi, Mt Kenya and North Rift affected
In Nairobi, the outage will hit sections of Hardy and Karen, including Safe Park Estate, Mutty Court and a Shell petrol station along Kerarapon Road, as well as Spring Valley, covering the stretch of Peponi Road between the General Mathenge and Thigiri Ridge junctions and Peponi Gardens. The Nairobi list also includes Bamburi Road and part of Enterprise Road, taking in the Industrial Area and Nairobi Prison. All Nairobi outages are scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In Nyeri County, the Kiriani and Kamacharia zone will lose power for the same nine-hour window, affecting Kora, Mananga and Kamacharia markets and the Thuita and Kaharo dispensary. Further north, Uasin Gishu County’s Torochmoi and Mosop areas face the day’s longest outage, running from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Western, Nyanza, Kiambu, Kitui and the coast also listed
In western Kenya, Kisumu County’s Chemelil area — including the Chemelil Sugar Factory and Simba petrol station — will be without power from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. In South Nyanza, Migori County’s Wasio and God Jope zone starts earlier, at 8:30 a.m., while Kisii County’s Kiogoro and Itumbe area, home to several tea buying centres, follows the standard schedule.
Kiambu County has two separate outage zones: the Murera Sisal, Juja Farm and Jujafarm Polytechnic area, and the PCEA Hospital Kikuyu zone, which covers Alliance High School, Alliance Girls’ High School and Thogoto Teachers Training College. Kitui County’s Kithumula and Musengo markets are also on the list, all running from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
At the coast, parts of Watamu and Turtle Bay in Kilifi County — including Turtle Bay Hotel and Ocean Sport — and parts of Nyali in Mombasa County, covering Lido Beach Hotel, Nyali City Mall and several apartment blocks along the first to fifth avenues, will also experience blackouts from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Kenya Power has urged residents and businesses in the affected zones, as well as adjacent customers, to plan around the interruption. The company cautioned that electricity supply could be restored before the stated time without further notice, and advised that all power lines be treated as live throughout the day.
