Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and DCI Mohamed Amin are set to appear in court today to explain why they should not be cited for contempt. Justice Diana Kavedza had previously ordered them to produce six individuals allegedly abducted in December 2024, but they failed to do so by the December 31 deadline.
Justice Bahati Mwamuye has now summoned the officials to personally appear in court to justify their non-compliance.
The case, filed by the Law Society of Kenya and the Kenya Commission on Human Rights, also names the Director of Public Prosecutions and Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen.
Of the six abducted individuals, five—Ronny Kiplagat, Billy Mwangi, Peter Muteti, Bernard Kavuli, and Kelvin Muthoni—have since been released. However, Steve Mbisi remains missing, and the IG is expected to provide an explanation regarding his whereabouts.
