Kenyans residing in Lebanon have been cautioned about fraudsters soliciting money for evacuation services.
This warning follows the government’s recent appeal for Kenyans in the war-torn country to register for evacuation amid the escalating Israeli invasion. The State Department for Diaspora Affairs has urged those in Lebanon to report any fraud attempts.
In a statement, the department clarified that the evacuation process provided by the government is free of charge.
“We want to alert all Kenyans in Lebanon about reports of fraudsters preying on vulnerable individuals. These individuals are unlawfully charging fees for evacuation services,” the statement read. “Please note that the government of Kenya is facilitating evacuations at no cost to citizens. The evacuation is fully funded by the government, and you should not pay anyone for these services.”
For accurate information and assistance, Kenyans in Lebanon are advised to use the following help lines: +254-114-757-002 (Kenya), +96-171-175-006 (Lebanon), and +96-590-906-719 (Kuwait).
“Stay safe and report any suspicious activities to our Embassy in Kuwait or email consular@diaspora.go.ke,” the State Department urged.
The government reiterated its commitment to prioritizing the safety of all Kenyans in Lebanon.
“We are deeply concerned that many Kenyans in Lebanon have yet to register for evacuation despite our ongoing calls. To ensure the safety and timely evacuation of our citizens, we urge all Kenyans in Lebanon to register immediately,” the State Department of Diaspora Affairs stated.
Registration can be completed at https://www.diaspora.go.ke/lebanon.html or by contacting the department at +96-590-906-719, +96-171-175-006, or +254-114-757-002.
Only registered Kenyans will be eligible for evacuation, with the registration deadline set for October 12, 2024.
The government has successfully evacuated two groups of Kenyans from Lebanon and is committed to continuing these efforts until every Kenyan in need is safely home. Any Kenyan wishing to be evacuated must ensure their registration is completed before the deadline.
