Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky believes the war with Russia might conclude sooner than expected. In an interview with the Media, he expressed optimism that peace is closer than perceived and emphasized the importance of Ukraine maintaining a strong position to compel Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the conflict. During his visit to the US, where he is attending the United Nations General Assembly, Zelensky is presenting a “victory plan” to bolster Ukraine’s military capabilities and hold Russia accountable for its invasion.
Zelensky clarified that his plan is not about negotiating but rather creating a pathway for diplomacy to end the war. Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov cautioned against media speculation regarding Ukraine’s plans, asserting that the conflict would cease only when Russia achieves its objectives.
Zelensky continues to call on Western allies, particularly the US, for long-range missile support, noting that President Biden’s leadership is crucial for Ukraine’s defense. His visit includes meetings with US presidential candidates and discussions about the ongoing military situation, which remains dire with Russia intensifying its attacks.
Despite some optimism, the president of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, warned that Ukraine must be realistic about regaining territories lost to Russia over the past 31 months, suggesting that parts of Ukraine may remain occupied for years. As attacks persist, Ukrainian military experts prepare for potential losses in key eastern cities, indicating a challenging road ahead.
