Some X users are reportedly earning thousands by sharing AI-generated images, conspiracy theories, and misinformation, often coordinating in networks to maximize reach. These groups span various political affiliations, with many supporting Donald Trump, Kamala Harris, or posting independently. X’s monetization rules, updated to reward engagement from premium users, have amplified the financial incentive, leading some users to post intentionally provocative content. Some U.S. politicians have even approached these accounts for support. Despite concerns, X maintains few guidelines on misinformation, prompting questions about the site’s role in potentially skewing political discourse.
