Veuve Clicquot narrowly defeated Tusker Malt 6-5 in the final to win the 7-Goal Polo Tournament held over the weekend at Nairobi Polo Club.
Sponsored by SBM Bank, the tournament attracted a large crowd of enthusiastic spectators and was the third event of the 2024/2025 Nairobi polo season. The final was a thrilling contest, showcasing exceptional skill and perseverance, with Alexander Watson and Julian Cattin spearheading the victory for Veuve Clicquot.
Despite Dirk Van Reenen’s impressive performance for Tusker Malt, scoring three goals, their efforts fell short against the well-coordinated play of Veuve Clicquot. The game’s closing moments were fiercely contested, but Veuve Clicquot managed to secure the win.
In the playoff match, SBM Bank, the previous weekend’s Kenya International 6-Goal polo tournament champions, lost 7-3 to Turkish Airlines. Mauricio Andre and Bobby Karia were instrumental in Turkish Airlines’ triumph. SBM Bank’s Mbu Ngugi, who scored twice, put up a strong fight, but the team couldn’t overcome their opponents.
Attention now turns to the next season event, the Chukkers & Carols tournament, scheduled for December. SBM Bank Kenya’s Head of Marketing and Communication, Magdalene Mulandi, praised the players for their impressive performances. “This tournament showcased polo at its finest, with both teams demonstrating remarkable determination and passion. We are thrilled to support the development of polo in Kenya and look forward to the rest of the season,” she said.
