The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has delivered a scathing reply to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s resignation, calling it both “belated” and “futile.”
In a statement signed by UDA Secretary General Senator Hassan Omar on Monday, the party acknowledged receiving Gachagua’s resignation letter, which was dated May 12, 2025, and shared on social media.
The party stated that it had already addressed Gachagua’s impeachment from October of the previous year and removed him from the Deputy Party Leader position. Therefore, his recent resignation had no bearing on his membership status, which had already been revoked through internal processes.
UDA accused Gachagua of trying to “rewrite the facts” and dismissed his leadership style as misaligned with the party’s values. The statement described his departure as the final step in a transition that had already occurred months ago.
“With your resignation, the Party has now completely shed an individual whose conduct and statements contradict our core values,” read the letter.
The party reiterated its focus on national unity, development, and its “Plan” agenda, which it called Kenya’s most progressive socio-economic blueprint.
Although the party deemed the resignation “inconsequential,” it viewed it as symbolic of its commitment to preserving national unity. The statement ended on a terse note, emphasizing the end of Gachagua’s relevance within UDA.
