Two women have been arrested in connection with the disappearance of three girls in Rachuonyo East Sub County, Homa Bay County.
According to the police, one of the suspects is a teacher, while the other is the girls’ stepmother. Both are currently in custody to assist with investigations.
Rachuonyo East Police Commander Justus Kucha confirmed the arrests, stating that officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had contacted a school in Gilgil, Nakuru County, where the girls were believed to be studying, but they could not be found there.
The girls, all secondary school students, went missing on January 11, 2025. Their family had previously appealed for help in locating them, stating that while they would sometimes leave home for prayers and return late, they had never gone missing before.
Thomas Ouma Omolo, the girls’ father, expressed his distress, saying he had worked hard to raise them. The missing girls are his third, fourth, and fifth-born children in a family of seven.
“The eldest left home first, and later, the other two followed,” he said.
Family members have accused the arrested teacher of influencing the girls’ disappearance, alleging that she had taken them to church, after which they never returned.
The girls’ uncle, Titus Omolo, revealed that the children had previously traveled to Uganda for prayers, leading him to suspect they may have gone there again.
