The Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiency (EDGE) program, developed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, seeks to promote resource-efficient buildings in emerging markets. EDGE provides free software, a green building standard, and an international certification system for green buildings.
This program helps developers and builders identify cost-effective strategies to reduce energy and water usage, as well as embodied carbon in materials. EDGE Experts assist project teams in integrating these strategies into their designs to ensure resource efficiency in line with EDGE standards. To achieve certification, projects must demonstrate a minimum projected reduction of 20% in energy use, water use, and embodied carbon compared to standard local buildings, with strategies verified by an EDGE Auditor and certified by Green Building Certification Inc.

The certification process for green buildings encompasses several key activities.
