Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa has launched a dedicated hotline to tackle corruption within the county and the civil service. Many individuals have reported being asked for money in exchange for services, and Thang’wa aims to address this issue head-on.
The senator emphasized that while many people witness corrupt activities, they often hesitate to report them due to fear. He assured the public that messages sent to the hotline number, 0728488788, will be kept confidential. “It is time we spoke out and demanded accountability,” Thang’wa stated.
He urged the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission to be prepared for the influx of messages, as reports could implicate county officials who request kickbacks from contractors. This initiative supports President William Ruto’s ongoing fight against corruption and aims to protect public funds.
Julia Wachira, a trader from Kikuyu Town, welcomed the hotline, describing it as a timely measure that could help Ruto’s administration curb corruption across all sectors. “Corruption has tarnished the integrity of government institutions. It is time we support our leaders in the fight against this menace,” she said.
The launch of the hotline coincides with recent protests by youth across the country against the current government. “Our leaders may be unaware of the extent of the problem, which is why we urge the public to share information that can help eradicate corruption,” Thang’wa added.
He highlighted the damaging impact of kickbacks on government services: “Customers are often asked for additional payments before receiving services. This practice siphons funds into private pockets while the government still collects its taxes. We are harming our communities, and this must end immediately.
