President William Ruto will officially open the 2025 African Chiefs of Defence Conference (ACHOD25) on May 28 in Nairobi—the first time the event is hosted in Kenya.
The U.S. Africa Command (Africom)-led forum gathers military leaders from 37 African countries and top U.S. defense entities to discuss regional threats, security partnerships, and collaborative military strategies. The conference aims to promote African-led solutions to security challenges while supporting U.S. interests and minimizing direct U.S. involvement.
Themed “Strengthening African Security, Sustaining Unity of Effort,” the summit emphasizes intelligence sharing, peacekeeping, and enhancing collective defense amid rising instability across the continent.
ACHOD25 is considered one of Africa’s premier defense forums, fostering cooperation, trust, and dialogue among nations with complex histories. Organizers highlight its African-driven agenda, despite international support.
Meanwhile, the National Defence College in Karen held its annual graduation ceremony on Tuesday, attended by Defence CS Soipan Tuya and First Lady Rachel Ruto, recognizing graduates from the KDF, allied nations, and government ministries.
