Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has revealed that President William Ruto directed him to prioritize meritocracy in public sector recruitment and promotions. In a TV47 interview, Ruku stressed that appointments will now be strictly based on qualifications, skills, and performance, rather than favoritism or connections. This move is intended to boost efficiency and trust in public institutions as part of the President’s reform agenda. While praising the Public Service Commission’s past work, Ruku underscored the need for continued transparency and fairness. He also instructed the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights to conduct its recruitment for chairperson publicly, emphasizing that such roles should not be filled behind closed doors. Addressing concerns about unauthorized teacher recruitment, Ruku affirmed that all hiring moving forward will adhere to merit-based principles in line with the President’s directives.
