The national government has earmarked Sh1.5 billion for a rural electrification initiative in Kwale County.

During a visit to Mackinnon Technical and Vocational College in Kinango, President William Ruto announced that this project is part of his administration’s broader aim to enhance electricity connectivity across Kenya, ensuring that every citizen benefits from improved living conditions.

Ruto outlined that the government will collaborate with local authorities to identify and address areas lacking electricity. The goal is to illuminate every corner of the country, thereby enhancing both lives and livelihoods.

“This project will focus on Kinango and other underserved areas to eliminate darkness and improve access to power,” Ruto said.

He emphasized that this effort is a component of a larger strategy for equitable development, particularly targeting rural regions that have historically struggled with access to essential services. By boosting electricity connectivity, the government intends to foster economic growth, improve educational opportunities, and enhance healthcare services, contributing to the region’s overall development.

Ruto reiterated the administration’s commitment to infrastructure development and inclusive progress, assuring that the government will work closely with local communities to ensure the successful execution of this transformative project.

He also stressed the importance of national unity and moving beyond tribal politics, emphasizing that collaboration and support are crucial for the country’s advancement.

“Including diverse perspectives in the cabinet reflects our commitment to development over party politics,” Ruto added.

Additionally, the President reported that construction of the multi-purpose Mwache dam in Kwale is progressing well. This project aims to provide clean drinking water, support agricultural activities, and boost local socioeconomic conditions.

Ruto announced further plans to build additional dams to address drought, combat hunger, and improve food security. He also highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare through the Social Health Insurance Fund program, which will offer affordable services to all Kenyans.

Furthermore, Ruto noted the government’s focus on developing ICT hubs to create online job opportunities for the youth, thereby improving their livelihoods.
