In a strategic move to bolster support for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in Nyanza, allies of President William Ruto have embarked on an intensive recruitment campaign. This effort is part of a broader strategy to expand UDA’s membership base and presence in traditionally opposition-dominated regions.

The recruitment drive gained momentum following the announcement by Silas Jakakimba, a former aide to Azimio leader Raila Odinga, that he was defecting to the ruling party. Jakakimba’s move is seen as a significant boost to UDA’s efforts to make inroads into Nyanza, a region historically aligned with Odinga’s political stronghold.

UDA leaders leading the recruitment campaign expressed confidence that their charm offensive would yield positive results, bolstering the party’s numbers and influence in Nyanza ahead of the 2027 General Election. The move signifies the party’s commitment to broadening its support base and challenging the dominance of rival political factions in key regions across the country.
