Gospel artist Alex Apoko, known as Ringtone, will remain in police custody until Monday, May 19, pending a ruling on his bail application in a land fraud case.
Ringtone was arrested after failing to attend multiple court sessions. He is accused of conspiring with Alfred Juma Ayora to fraudulently acquire a Sh50 million parcel of land in Nairobi’s Karen area by claiming adverse possession, asserting he had lived there for over 20 years.
Ayora, who took a plea in March, faces an additional charge of giving false information through a sworn affidavit. He pleaded not guilty.
Despite repeated summonses, Ringtone skipped several court dates, citing illness. However, the court dismissed the medical excuses due to lack of supporting documents, prompting the issuance of a warrant for his arrest.
He eventually appeared in court on May 16, denied the charges, and requested bail, claiming health issues. The court declined immediate release and ordered his remand until a pre-bail report is presented.
