President William Ruto has sent his condolences following the passing of His Highness the Aga Khan, the spiritual leader of Ismaili Muslims, who died on February 4, 2025, in Lisbon, Portugal, at the age of 88.
In his tribute, Ruto expressed deep sorrow and praised the Aga Khan’s lifelong dedication to humanitarian work, particularly in education and healthcare. “Our thoughts are with the family of His Highness and the wider Ismaili community,” the President stated.
The Aga Khan, who became the 49th hereditary Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims in 1957 at the age of 20, was a global philanthropist. Through the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), he spearheaded initiatives that improved the lives of vulnerable communities worldwide, regardless of faith or background. His successor will be announced soon, as confirmed by AKDN.
