Detectives are investigating the murder of 23-year-old Seth Nyakio Njeri, whose body was found in her house in the Biafra area of Thika, Kiambu County. The incident, which occurred between Sunday, October 13, and Monday, October 14, marks another instance of rising violence against women in Kenya.
Njeri, a recent graduate from Zetech University, was last seen leaving her family’s home in Kamakis on Saturday. According to her mother, Lucy Njeri, a nominated MCA in Kirinyaga County, the young woman had been in high spirits when she left, planning to visit a friend in Thika. Concern grew after her calls and texts went unanswered, prompting the family to begin a search.
On Monday morning, a friend informed the family of Njeri’s death. Police found her lifeless, naked body, with preliminary reports indicating she had been strangled after being sexually assaulted.
Investigators are focusing on a male friend, suspected to have lured and killed Njeri after learning of her location. Statements from her friends have been recorded, though the motive remains unclear. The case is part of a series of violent acts against women that have raised safety concerns. Police assure that some suspects have been apprehended in related cases, while others are still under investigation.
