The National Assembly has begun the process of vetting President William Ruto’s nominees for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), following the formal submission of their names to Parliament for approval.
The nominees include Erastus Edung Ethekon as IEBC chairperson and Anne Nderitu, Moses Mukwana, Mary Karen Sorobit, Hassan Noor, Francis Odhiambo, and Fahima Abdalla as commissioners.
Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has referred the names to the Departmental Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs, which will oversee the vetting process. According to a public notice issued on May 12 by National Assembly Clerk Samwel Njoroge, the hearings will take place on May 26, 2025, starting at 9:00 a.m. at County Hall.
Ethekon will be the first to be vetted, followed by Nderitu, Mukwana, Sorobit, Noor, Odhiambo, and Fahima in scheduled time slots throughout the day.
Kenyans have until 5:00 p.m. on May 21, 2025, to submit their views or objections on the suitability of the nominees. These must be in the form of sworn written statements backed by evidence and addressed to the Clerk of the National Assembly.
All nominees are also expected to present clearance certificates from key oversight agencies, including the EACC, KRA, HELB, DCI, the Registrar of Political Parties, and the Credit Reference Bureau during the hearings.
