On September 28, 2024, more than 83,000 Kenyans visited 28 national parks and reserves for free in celebration of United Nations World Tourism Day. The initiative, organized by Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and approved by the government, aimed to promote local tourism and highlight the country’s natural heritage. Popular destinations like Lake Nakuru National Park and Nairobi National Park saw large turnouts. KWS expressed gratitude for the strong public participation and emphasized the importance of wildlife conservation for future generations.
