Peter Nwachukwu, the widower of renowned Nigerian gospel singer Osinachi Nwachukwu, has been sentenced to death by hanging following his conviction in her death, which occurred three years ago.
Initially believed to have died from throat cancer, Osinachi’s death took a turn when her family alleged she was a victim of prolonged domestic abuse. The High Court in Abuja found Peter guilty of 23 charges, including culpable homicide, emotional and psychological abuse, and cruelty to children. Though he denied the accusations, the court ruled that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt. While the death penalty was imposed, it’s uncertain if it will be carried out, as executions are rare in Nigeria. He has the right to appeal.
