Africa’s fastest man, Ferdinand Omanyala, is gearing up for an electrifying 150m sprint duel against American Olympic 100m champion Noah Lyles at the Adidas Atlanta City Games this Saturday. This marks Omanyala’s third appearance at the meet, where he finished second in the 100m last year. The 150m race will be their second encounter at this distance, with Lyles having won their 2023 clash. Lyles holds the third-fastest 150m time ever, while Usain Bolt’s world best still stands at 14.35 seconds. Omanyala, the 2022 Commonwealth 100m gold medallist, is looking to bounce back from a slow Diamond League outing in Shanghai and has shown mixed form this season across various meets in Africa and Asia. He remains optimistic as these events prepare him for the World Championships in Tokyo this September. Recently, Omanyala helped Kenya’s 4x100m relay team qualify for the World Championships for the first time with a national record. Lyles has dominated early 2025 competitions with multiple sprint victories, with only a 400m race disrupting his perfect streak. The Atlanta event will also feature other top sprinters, while South Africa’s Akani Simbine leads the 100m men’s field aiming to maintain his strong form.
