The body of 21-year-old University of Nairobi student Mercy Wanjiru Thairu was discovered at City Mortuary after she went missing following a night out with friends on Friday.
Her family and friends, who had been searching for her over the weekend, traced her to the morgue, where they learned she had died in a road accident. Authorities suspect she was hit by a vehicle near a carwash along Thika Road after being dropped off by a bodaboda rider.
Wanjiru, a third-year Economics student, had reportedly lost consciousness after consuming alcohol during the outing. Her family suspects she may have been drugged, as she was the only one in her group to black out. Investigations are ongoing, with police questioning those who were last seen with her and tracing the bodaboda rider who transported her.
In a separate incident, police are investigating the death of Gideon Munuve Syengo, whose body was found in a hotel room in Kamkunji, Nairobi. He had checked in on Saturday night, and his body was discovered the next day by a cleaner. Officers recovered his personal belongings and various drugs from the scene. The body was taken to the mortuary for an autopsy and further investigation.
Meanwhile, another unidentified man’s body was found on the roadside in South B, Nairobi, on Saturday evening. The body had no visible injuries or identification documents at the time of discovery. It was moved to City Mortuary, where authorities await postmortem results and identification.
