Members of Parliament have been locked out of their offices at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) due to rent arrears exceeding Sh50 million.
A letter from the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) dated May 9, 2024, confirmed the situation, with Accounting Officer Clement Nyandiere appealing to KICC CEO James Mwaura to restore MPs’ access while the Commission works to clear the outstanding debt before the end of the financial year.
Nyandiere emphasized that PSC has maintained a long-standing contractual relationship with KICC for office and parking facilities, acknowledging occasional delays in payment due to funding constraints.
He noted that the Commission had already paid Sh134 million in previous dues during this financial year—Sh73 million for the 2023/2024 period and Sh61 million covering payments up to December 2024.
Despite the arrears, Nyandiere urged KICC to allow MPs continued access to their offices and parking areas, including patrols of the COMESA grounds, without obstruction.
