Philip Aroko, a suspect in the murder of Kasipul MP Charles Were, was rearrested on Monday after a Kibera court revoked his earlier bail. Aroko had been freed on a Sh300,000 cash bail by JKIA Law Courts but was re-arrested following an appeal by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The court ordered Aroko detained at Kileleshwa Police Station for seven days to allow further investigations. Authorities say Aroko, one of 12 suspects in the case, has provided new information that requires additional probing. Pending forensic and financial reports are also crucial to the investigation.
The prosecution noted that several key witnesses are yet to be interviewed and that police need to analyze call records and trace links between Aroko and other suspects. The late MP Charles Were was shot dead on April 30 along Valley Road, Nairobi, and the suspected murder weapon has been recovered.
