Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has assured Kenyans that the nation will not experience post-election violence similar to 2007/08, indirectly responding to recent remarks by former DP Rigathi Gachagua. While Gachagua warned of possible unrest if the 2027 elections are not handled fairly, Kindiki emphasized that Kenya learned harsh lessons from past violence and is determined never to repeat it.
In a statement on X, Kindiki stated that Kenyans now prioritize leaders with transformative ideas, rejecting fear-driven politics. He called out “desperate and pretentious” leaders who incite fear for political gain.
Gachagua, speaking on Obinna TV, cautioned that mismanagement of the 2027 polls could trigger chaos worse than the 2007 crisis. His comments drew sharp criticism, including from MP Oscar Sudi, who labelled them “reckless” and insisted that Kenya must never revisit that dark chapter.
