A Milimani law court has sentenced Kiambu County Chief Finance Officer William Kimani to six months in jail for contempt of court after repeatedly disobeying orders to pay Sh52 million to a city lawyer. Lady Justice Roselyne Aburili delivered the verdict, noting that Kimani had failed to comply with a 2022 court directive to pay for legal services provided to the county government.
Despite being ordered to appear in court again on March 17 this year, Kimani ignored the summons and evaded the court for nearly a year. He eventually surrendered voluntarily after the Judicial Review Division ordered the Kiambu county police to arrest him. The judge sentenced him without the option of a fine.
Justice Aburili also directed the Kiambu county government to settle the Sh52 million debt owed to the lawyer. Kimani is currently held at Milimani Law Courts’ holding cells and is awaiting transfer to Industrial Area Remand Prison to begin his jail term. He has 14 days to appeal the ruling if dissatisfied.
