Police have arrested a 56-year-old man in Kibra, Nairobi, suspected to be behind the arson attack that killed nine family members in Upanda village, Ugunja subcounty, Siaya. The suspect, who had gone into hiding, was apprehended while having supper with his children following a tip-off. Authorities also arrested his wife earlier in Sigomere after finding a fuel can linked to the crime.
Investigators believe the attack, which wiped out an entire family including a six-month-old infant and a student, was tied to a long-standing land dispute. Forensic analysis of the suspect’s mobile phones is underway, and police are pursuing additional suspects believed to have assisted in the tragic incident.
