Kenyan politics has seen significant shifts, blurring the lines between government and opposition. Yet, one figure remains steadfast—Edwin Sifuna, Nairobi Senator and ODM Secretary General.

Known for his eloquence and legal acumen, the first-term lawmaker is unafraid to challenge power structures, earning both admirers and critics. As the Senate Deputy Minority Whip, Sifuna is vocal about ODM’s plans for the 2027 elections and remains critical of Kenya Kwanza’s administration.

In an interview , Sifuna addressed various topics, including ODM’s readiness for 2027 and the party’s stance on President William Ruto’s administration. He clarified that ODM remains focused on its own agenda, guided by Raila Odinga’s directives to prepare for the upcoming elections while retaining the party’s identity and values.

Sifuna dismissed claims that ODM is straddling both government and opposition, asserting that the party has consistently positioned itself outside of Ruto’s administration. He also rebuffed suggestions that his position as Secretary General is under threat, pointing out his longevity in the role and his plans to seek re-election as Nairobi Senator in 2027.

Addressing Nairobi politics, Sifuna rejected criticism that he is lenient on Governor Johnson Sakaja, citing his Senate interventions on various county issues. He emphasized the role of local MCAs in primary oversight and encouraged them to take legislative action if dissatisfied with county governance.

Sifuna remains focused on fortifying ODM’s grassroots structure, moving from polling station elections to county coordination, and preparing for a robust 2027 campaign. Confident in his leadership and unwavering in his principles, Sifuna is set to remain a prominent voice in Kenyan politics.
