The Kenya Simbas are focusing on improving their set pieces, particularly lineouts, ahead of the Rugby World Cup qualifiers in Uganda this July. Team manager Jimmi Mnene highlighted the national team’s struggles in this area, partly due to similar issues at the Kenya Cup level. The upcoming training camp in Kakamega will emphasize not only set pieces but also better decision-making, an area they underperformed in last season.
Mnene expects intense competition for spots, citing strong performances in the Kenya Cup playoffs and the inclusion of international players from Romania and South Africa. The Kakamega camp begins Monday and runs for a week.
Only one African team will qualify directly for the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia. The runner-up will enter a multi-region playoff pathway for one final qualification spot.
