A UN report highlights the country’s progress in creating national action plans, but poor funding has slowed efforts. In 2019, over 45,000 Kenyans died due to AMR-related complications. At the 79th UN General Assembly, global leaders endorsed a political declaration, urging nations to increase funding to combat AMR and achieve targets such as reducing global AMR-related deaths by 10% by 2030. The declaration emphasizes sustainable financing, infection control, and the responsible use of antimicrobials in both human health and agriculture.
